E-LIBRARY
Digital age
Why should young people from poor regions who hardly have an intact classroom be taught on computers and tablets?

Background

The digital age determines our life worldwide today. This development does not stop in southern Africa either. 90% of the population has no fixed telephone line and hardly any access to banks. The unstoppable change from communicating with smoke signals to mobile phones has also taken place in the poorest and most remote regions of Africa. The mobile phone is used to transfer money, manage the bank account, and it is the only means of communication that works to some extent.
Why an E-Library?
Online registration is required for admission to a secondary school.
In order to find connection to the job market, it is essential to be able to write a résumé and submit it electronically.
With access to the Internet and the acquisition of tablet or computer skills, the young people are able to begin a life with dignity at all.
Where to find E-Libraries?
The association 1goal-education4all supports schools in the homelands, townships and remote rural poor regions by setting up "electronic libraries" in used shipping containers, equipped with tablets or computers. A modem with mobile network reception ensures the Internet connection. Depending on the region, the electricity is generated with solar. A first "e-library" was successfully put into operation last year in Nositha, KwaZulu Natal, South Coast.
